I don’t read newspapers/sites often. Not because I am not curious about what is going on in my country and in the world around. It is because nearly all the news I read seems to be awkward. This is my own interpretation and of course it is not a reliable opinion. Therefore the term “awkward” only means that there is a discrepancy between my personal ideas about reality and the “reality” that is described by the newspapers.
Reality in daily life is quite mysterious too. Why do the IQ-scores of all the people who were born 50 years ago (or 40, 45, 55, etc.) show the normal distribution? We don’t categorize and benchmark all the aspects of the human capacities but it is for sure that the normal distribution (probability theory) will emerge from every measured aspect. No matter if it is playing football, being honest, the capacity to DIY, creativity, etc. In other words, there exists a “fixed” distribution of (human) capacities. A non-locality that underlies the fact that a person with only one leg will not be selected to run the 100 m hurdles at the next Olympics. Everybody understands the logic and that is why most people like local (simple) thinking. However the 2022 Noble prize Physics was awarded to 3 scientists who proved that our universe is not only local, but it is non-local too.
Although theoretical physicists who are involved in quantum field theory are convinced that the volume of the universe is filled with basic quantum fields – and matter is a creation of those fields – most people are still convinced that outer space is synonymous with emptiness. Not totally empty because outer space shows to be permeated by phenomena like electromagnetic waves (“light”) and (accelerated) particles.
The idea that reality is limited to what we can see and measure is termed phenomenological reality. The consequence is that what we cannot see and measure isn’t part of the reality of the person who believes that reality is identical to phenomenological reality. Or at least he/she doubts the descriptions of facets of reality that he/she cannot accept because it defies the simple logic of phenomenological reality.
Phenomenological reality as a concept is strange because it implies that the basic phenomena are created by themselves because composed phenomena are configurations of basic phenomena (e.g. E = m c2).
We can imagine the transformation of an object. For example the homeomorphic transformation of a mug into a torus and visa versa (topology). But we cannot imagine how a whole universe originate from a singularity (big-bang hypothesis). We can adopt the idea because one of the 2 states is known: the present state of our universe. But the starting point cannot be imagined. Nobody has a “tangible” picture of a initial singularity that in some way is responsible for the present manifestation of the universe.
More worse, physicists are convinced that there exists a fixed amount of energy everywhere in the universe: the Planck constant (h). A local thinker is convinced that the Planck constant is a constant because of its “own” manifestation. But if we think a bit non-local we have to admit that the Planck constant is a constant because of the existence of all the other fixed amounts of energy (h). It means that the properties of a phenomenon are the result of internal and external conditions. One fixed amount of energy (h) in an imaginary emptiness is meaningless.
The idea that phenomenological reality exists on its own is not in line with what science knows about the universe (microcosm and macrocosm). That is why it is reasonable to search for a more adequate conceptual framework to understand reality.
