If I have the aim to explore the non-observable part of the universe – reality we cannot observe in a clear way with our senses and measurement instruments – it is reasonable to start with a rough inventory of the information that is suited to do the research. Because a lot of information is story telling. For example people who describe their near dead experience don’t observe this experience with a scientific mind. They just tell their story like they are used to explain their experiences during a wonderful (or mad) holiday. It is difficult to draw conclusions about the foundations of the underlying physics if a description is an expression of emotional feelings and wonderful landscapes with angelic personalities. Nevertheless, the descriptions are about human experiences and therefore the enveloping subject is the human consciousness.
Consciousness itself is a confusing topic because the significance of consciousness is the ability to act as an “independent” phenomenon. That means that animals have consciousness too (the awareness of itself and the environment). Research have showed that plants have also a type of consciousness.
We don’t know if everything in the universe has consciousness because most phenomena are too small or too large and these phenomena have another rate of change in relation to humans. However, the human body is not 100% human because the body of a person has nearly 1 kg of foreign life inside (bacteria, viruses, fungi). Therefore it is reasonable to state that every consciousness is part of a larger consciousness and envelopes smaller consciousnesses too. Or to express this statement in physic terms: consciousnesses can be super positioned. The consequence is that (human) consciousness is a vector phenomenon.
The opinion that a certain amount of “independence” is an indication of the existence of consciousness is questionable. Because our universe is deterministic. Most people don’t like the concept because the supposed existence of free will is a corner stone in human culture everywhere on the planet. We reward and punish other people because of the idea that they act more or less independent. Most scientists are convinced that they really “own” their Noble prize.
Large language models (AI) can express human thoughts in such a way that is difficult to distinguish the output from the thoughts of a human being. But a LMM will give exactly the same answer – same sentences, same words – if the user asks the same question with the same sentences and the same words. That we don’t experience this deterministic behaviour is because the architects and engineers “tweak” the probability scores of the tokens that represent the knowledge base of the LMM. Humans have a natural “tweak”: the probability distribution of the amplitudes of the electromagnetic field. Thus our supposed “freedom” to express ourselves in a unique way doesn’t originate from our human capacities. Its origin exists everywhere in the universe.
The idea that reality is 100% deterministic is confusing for most people. But this idea don’t affect their unspoken experience that reality is local. Although the 2022 Noble prize Physics was awarded to 3 scientists who proved that reality is non-local too. The consequence is that everything in the universe influences everything at exactly the same moment. In other words, the universe as a whole creates reality and it is not independently created by the visible parts within phenomenological reality (like humans).
The idea that the universe isn’t a large volume that envelopes solitary phenomena and configurations of solitary phenomena is not new, the concept is old. At least some 2500 years (Parmenides of Elea). A universe as a whole (dynamic continuum) cannot exists without a structure that “tessellates” the volume of the universe. Because non-locality is impossible without instantaneous influence. Actually, the law of conservation of energy needs instantaneous influence too.
In other words, the attempt to explore the non-observable part of the universe and to bring the result within the same framework as physics is quite an awkward intent. But it can widen our horizon.
